Wymondham cruise into semi-finals

Wymondham proved too hot to handle for Shropham in their Summer Cup quarter-final clash as the visitors collected an 8-0 maximum win to reach the semi-final stage. Mary Fisher, Debbie Sparham & Jack Pye started well to move 8-0 up after just three ends against Richard Broad’s triple in a game they eventually won by four shots. In the other first half game Jon Sparham, John Jeffery & Chris Mann (pictured) romped to a 24-5 win against Terry Hewitson, Kathy Girling & Peggy Bertram to more or less put the tie to bed. After the break, with Hayley Stratton subbing for Mary Fisher, Jack Pye’s triple beat Peggy Bertram’s triple 28-3 while Chris Mann’s triple beat Richard Broad 26-11 with the home triple gaining some consolation from a count of five on the last end. Wymondham, cup winners in 2014 & 2015, now face the prospect of a more challenging encounter when they visit the winners of the Halvergate v Bob Carter tie. Summer League Division One action saw title chasing Bob Carter make it 22 points from a possible 24 with an 8-0 thumping of Diss at Drayton. The visitors endured a grim time of it as Carter turned on the style scoring 117 shots against just 14 in a one-sided encounter. The scores speak for themselves with Nigel Willard, Simon Willies & Gary Best beating Bill Francis’ triple 42-2 and Graham Mobbs triple by 26-4. John Turner, David Lamb & Melvin Woods beat Graham Mobbs 21-5 and Bill Francis by 28-3 leaving Carter just four points behind defending champions Wymondham with a match in hand.  Wymondham’s 8-0 home win against Halvergate left their opponents rooted to the foot of the table. Jon Sparham, John Jeffery & Chris Mann fought off a strong challenge by Kerry Greenacre, Roy Walker & Keith Cooke to win 13-10 while Mark Linsdell, Debbie Sparham & Jack Pye beat Ray Lamb, Steven Lamb & Robbie Lamb 15-10. In the second half Keith Cooke’s triple again pushed the home side hard but could not avoid a 15-11 defeat despite winning the last three ends. Halvergate’s misery was completed as Chris Mann’s triple completed the rout by beating Robbie Lamb’s triple 18-8. In Division Two Windows ended their run of defeats by earning a creditable 4-4 draw at the home of leaders Horsford Heroes. Di Boswell, Mally Woodhouse & Mike Boswell beat Chris Woodhouse’s triple 16-13 and Brenda Sizer, Diane Halford & Keith Halford beat Vic Webster 15-14 to give Windows a surprise 4-0 half time lead. Promotion contenders Horsford hit back though to earn a draw with Mally Kemp, Sue Fox & Chris Woodhouse beating Halford 20-5 and Peter Fox, Carol Kemp & Vic Webster beating Boswell 22-9.
