Busy weekend for Norfolk Over 60's

It was a busy weekend for Norfolk Over 60’s with a home match against Cambridgeshire Ladies on Saturday and an away fixture against Friends of Essex on Sunday. At Hingham Sports & Social Club a Norfolk Over 60’s side consisting of all lady bowlers entertained Cambs Ladies. Cambs Ladies were looking for revenge after losing at home to Norfolk but it was not to be as Norfolk completed a double over their opponents defeating them 30-18 on points and 239-191 on shots. After winning the first session 6-2 on points Norfolk never conceded the lead. In the pairs Wendy Tweed & Sue Fox were impressive throughout winning their games by 14-2, 13-8 & 11-8. In the triples Anne Bidolph, Elaine Oatway & Lesley Crowe won their games by 14-4, 9-8 & 14-4 while Moira Stevens, Joan Costello & Jane James won by 17-5, 13-11 & 11-8. The next day saw Norfolk Over 60’s set out for an away match against Friends of Essex at Falcon IBC. It was the first time Norfolk had played at this venue and with slow mats in play on an indoor rink Norfolk bowlers certainly noticed the difference in speed from what they are used to at Hingham. Nevertheless it proved to be an excellent and competitive match although the home side came out on top by 68-60 on points and 570-561 on shots. Certainly Norfolk got the better of their opponents in the pairs sessions where they came out on top by 39-25 on points but the triples endured a torrid time in their second and third sessions resulting in a 43-21 points deficit which swung the match Essex way. Top scorers for Norfolk were Kerry Greenacre of Haddiscoe & Selwyn Goldsmith of Kirby Bedon who won all their four pairs games by 9-8, 15-4, 15-4 & 14-6.
