Cup holders in stunning form

Summer Cup holders Bob Carter made a successful start to this year’s competition with an 8-0 away win at Diss in an all Division One clash. The one-sided match saw the visitors rack up 100 shots against just 32. Nigel Willard, Jamie Forster & Gary Best opened with a 21-7 win against Russell Davidson’s triple while Jason Woods, Melvin Woods & David Lamb beat Keith Buck’s triple 23-10. The deadly onslaught continued unabated with Gary Best’s triple storming to a 34-7 win against Graham Atter’s triple while David Lamb’s triple beat Terry Newby 22-8. In the next round Bob Carter will visit the winners of the first round tie between Deaf Sports & Halvergate. Division One action saw defending champions Wymondham visit Kirby Bedon for their opening league match of the new campaign. Last year Wymondham were held to a 4-4 draw by Kirby Bedon and once again the visitors had to be happy with a share of the points. Mark Linsdell, Debbie Sparham & Jack Pye opened for Wymondham with a resounding 20-4 win against Carol Aggas, John Aggas & Phil Watson but the home triple of Jimmy Dye, Tony Orum & Gerald Chilvers replied by beating Roger Steele, Chris Mann & Jon Sparham 13-12. In the second half Jack Pye’s Wymondham triple won again but this time by a narrow one shot margin against Gerald Chilvers’ triple. Jon Sparham’s triple though was again unable to get among the points as they went down 13-11 to Phil Watson’s triple. In Division Two Summer League newcomers Shropham entertained Horsford Heroes who were relegated from Div One last season after only winning one match. The more experienced Heroes side opened well winning both first half games. Richard Hart, Sue Fox & Peter Fox beat Jim Delaney’s triple 19-16 while Lyn Frank, Carol Kemp & former Norfolk Singles Champion Roger Frank beat Roger Fulcher’s triple 16-8. Peter Fox’s triple added a second half 23-8 win against Richard Broad but Kathy Girling, Val Hambling & Peggy Bertram reduced the deficit to 6-2 on points by beating Roger Frank’s triple 14-12. Horsford Heroes were held to a 4-4 home draw by Forncett despite good results for Chris Woodhouse & Sue Fox. With Russell Hubbard at lead Fox & Woodhouse beat Linda Preece’s triple 26-6 and with Vic Webster subbing for Hubbard they added a 13-12 win against Peter Lock. Forncett’s points were gained by Mike Smail, Jan Smail & Peter Lock who beat Roger Frank 16-10 and Keith, Martin & Rebecca Humphries who beat Peter Fox 12-10. In a hard fought local derby Hingham emerged 6-2 winners at home to Watton. Mike Smith, Bryan Dibble & Eddie Bebee scored a close 10-9 win against Keith Thomas for the visitors but the home side picked up wins in the remaining three games. The biggest win was a 19-8 result for Mike Groombridge, Janet Higgs & John Higgs against Roger Braham’s Watton triple. Will Townsend, Colin Short & Graham Tweed beat Roger Braham 18-10 while Cynthia Powell, Trevor Curry-Smith & Eileen Herbert beat Eddie Bebee 12-9.
