Morgan Warnes & Gary Best retain Norfolk Pairs title

Morgan Warnes and Gary Best retained the Norfolk County Pairs title at Hingham Sports & Social Club on Sunday, the third time they have won the event which also acts as a National Championship qualifier. For the second year in a row Morgan faced her father Simon Warnes in the final, this year he was playing with Trevor Brown. After four ends Simon looked like he might turn the tables this year as he and Trevor Brown took singles on the first four ends to lead 4-0. But that was as good as it would get as Morgan and Gary hit back winning the next six ends to lead 9-4 and the last scheduled end was not needed. In the third place play-off father and son combo David Lamb and Ryan Fox beat Karl Newby and Jack Marshall 10-5 in a game that was tied at 5-5 with two ends remaining. In the semi-finals Morgan Warnes and Gary Best had beaten David Lamb and Ryan Fox 16-2 while Trevor Brown and Simon Warnes had won by 10-8 against Karl Newby and Jack Marshall. Morgan Warnes and Gary Best had progressed through the quarter-finals beating Steve Lamb and Robert Howlett 13-3 while Trevor Brown and Simon Warnes beat Jason Woods and Chris Willies 14-10. The other quarter-finals results saw David Lamb and Ryan Fox beat Billie and Mel Barker 12-2 while Jack Marshall and Karl Newby beat Jack Pye and AJ Brown 5-4 scoring a single on the last end. That proved to be a low scoring contest with just one shot taken each end as well as a non-scoring eighth end.
