Hevingham triple retain Bure Triples title

Thorpe Marriott hosted the Bure Triples Championships where Joan Costello, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith went through the evening unbeaten to retain the title for Hevingham with Halvergate’s Ray Lamb, Ryan Fox & Robbie Lamb finishing as runners-up. Session one saw the Halvergate triple facing East Tuddenham’s Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Trevor Brown with former two time England Singles champion Brown aiming to win this title for the first time. The Tuddenham triple made a great start leading 4-0 after two ends but a stunning count of five on the third end by Lamb’s triple gave them the lead and they never looked back winning by 11-4. On the other mat Thorpe Marriott’s Richard Perkins, Kath Frost & Derek Sheldrake opened with a 9-2 win against the Horsford BC triple consisting of Ruth Ruddock, Richard McPhee & Keith Ruddock. The Hevingham triple played their first game in session two and after a good start, which saw them leading 5-1 against Horsford, the game ended at 6-6 after a good comeback by Ruddock’s triple. Meanwhile Trevor Brown’s East Tuddenham triple recorded their first win of the night beating Thorpe Marriott’s triple by 10-5 after scoring nine shots over the last three ends. Hevingham faced Halvergate in the third session and built up a lead of 7-2 with one end remaining. A superb final bowl by Halvergate’s Ryan Fox almost saved the day for his triple but a count of four left them one short of what they needed. On the other mat Trevor Brown’s East Tuddenham triple lost for the second time with Keith Ruddock’s Horsford triple beating them by 6-2. After the break Goldsmith’s Hevingham triple remained unbeaten after a 6-5 win against Brown’s East Tuddenham triple while Halvergate slipped to a 6-4 defeat against Thorpe Marriott. This left the last session to play with Hevingham knowing that even a draw against Thorpe Marriott would keep the title in the possession of Hevingham. In a hard fought game Hevingham edged into a 4-1 lead with two ends remaining and held on to win 5-2 to retain the title for Hevingham with seven points. Halvergate won by 5-1 against Horsford BC to finish on four points with their +8 shot difference enough to claim second place ahead of Thorpe Marriott who also finished on four points with  +1 shots. It was the fourth Bure Triples title for Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith who previously won the event in 1999, 2009 and then with Pat Williamson the last time it was held just prior to the covid outbreak. Pat Williamson was unable to play this time due to illness.
