Norfolk Premier crush Devon

Defending I.C.C champions Norfolk Premier brushed Devon Premier aside in their quarter-final clash at Daventry. County Team Manager Selwyn Goldsmith called on his side to hit Devon early on and they responded in style racing into a 14-2 points lead by the interval. Bob Carter’s Gary Best opened with a 19-12 singles win while Wymondham’s Chris Mann added a 14-13 win. Norfolk’s pairs piled on the agony as Jon Sparham & Neil Davidson won 18-6 and Morgan Warnes & Jack Pye won 14-6. Norfolk’s rinks continued the onslaught with Laura Hawksworth, Phil Watson, Nigel Willard & Selwyn Goldsmith winning 10-5 and Lewis Cranston, Rob Cranston, Jamie Forster & David Lamb winning 16-12. Simon Warnes, Jason Woods & Simon Willies added a 15-10 win in the triples leaving Devon’s only first half points to be earned in the remaining triples game by E Pavey against Keith Cooke. The first session after the break finished off any hopes Devon had as Norfolk’s pairs both won again while an 11-11 draw by Chris Mann took Norfolk over the finishing line. With the score now 23-5 to Norfolk on points Devon expressed a desire to play the last session despite the match already lost. Norfolk won the last session 5-3 on points with David Lamb’s rink beating Simon Pridham’s rink 23-5, Simon Willies’ triple winning 22-4 and Keith Cooke’s triple drawing 11-11. Norfolk Premier now face West Mids, who beat Kent Premier by 32-8, in the semi-finals at Daventry on Sunday 5th March. In the other semi-final West Sussex Premier face Cornwall. West Sussex reached the semi-finals with a 25-15 win against Essex Premier while Cornwall beat Gloucestershire 22-18. Norfolk “A” have already qualified for the “A” Team semi-finals and play Cheshire “A” at the same venue also on the 5th March.
