The Magnificent Seven head for Scotland

This weekend the annual British Isles Championships take place in Scotland and seven Norfolk bowlers are among the England line-up attempting to achieve international glory. England will be looking to improve on what has been a poor record in this event in recent years which is traditionally dominated by Ireland. Current ESMBA National Triples Champions Neil Davidson of Hempnall and Jack Marshall & Chris Mann of Wymondham have of course earned the right to compete in the Premier section of the British Isles Triples Championship by winning the National title and certainly have in their armoury the weapons to add another major title to their list of achievements. The Irish triple has been named as G McCabe, K Trainor & J Murnahan with G McCabe named as Ireland’s Team Captain for the British Isles Championships. The other four Norfolk bowlers selected will take part in the B.I “A” Team event. As previously reported the talented father and son duo of David Lamb & Ryan Fox of Halvergate will represent England in the “A” Team Pairs and recent form suggests they will be hard to beat. Ryan Fox of course is currently the ESMBA Under 18’s Singles champion. David Lamb has also been named in an England “A” Team rink with Bob Carter’s Simon Willies. They will be playing with Nicky Tresadern of Kent and Emily Thomas of Dorset. Another “A” team rink will include Jason Woods of Bob Carter who will be on a high after lifting the Norfolk County Singles title for the first time at the weekend. He will play with Herefordshire’s John Mills, Hampshire’s Nathan Bailey and Devon’s Eric Pavey.

Following the withdrawal of Devon’s Benny Bass, current ESMBA Singles Champion, England Manager Brandon Whittaker has named Bronagh Toleman as his replacement to represent England in the Premier Singles event. Bronagh currently represents North Yorks “B” in the Northern I.C.C. Matty Worden & Paul Clegg of Cheshire, as National Pairs Champions, represent England in the B.I Pairs while National Fours champions Ross Dunkley, Craig Strong, Allan Williams & Adam Easthope of West Mids will compete in the B.I Fours. Lee Toleman of North Yorks has been named as Team Captain for the event, he is named in a Premier Team rink with Lawrence Moffat of North Yorks and West Mids bowlers Jon Pitcher and Craig Strong.
